RF Devices Application and Testing

OVERVIEW:

Today's rapidly evolving technological landscape has enabled low-cost, programmable RF devices to be widely available. These devices are relatively easy to use and can be programmed to enable rapid prototyping and proof of concept development for applications ranging from simple FM transceivers to complex vulnerability testers.

This course equips participants with knowledge to design, build and program their own RF devices to meet their application and testing needs. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the commercially available RF components, how to select and interface the components, and write basic codes to implement and test their RF devices. The course will also include practical sessions and demonstrations that will allow participants to apply their knowledge using actual hardware and RF components for cellular testing to gain insights on the working principles of cellular protocol and its vulnerabilities.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Participants should be able to:

  1. Design RF Devices using commercial components.

  2. Implement the design and program the RF Device.

  3. Understand the fundamentals of cellular communications.

  4. Apply knowledge in RF Devices for cellular testing (e.g. implement RF Device to record and replay waveform).

ABOUT THE SPEAKER/FOUNDER:

Mr Poh Huat has 20 years of experience in communication engineering and received his Master of Science in Communications Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2006. Prior to founding Wavelets Engineering in 2025, he was Principal Engineer at ST Engineering (Advanced Networks & Sensors) specializing in RF jamming and EW systems. He is an IEEE senior member and his current research interests are in counter-drone systems and cellular Radio Access Technology (RAT).
